Countdown to first Newbie Award in the UK
As momentum builds in the UK Newbie network, judges for the first new Entrant Farm Business of the Year Award have been announced. Presidents of the five farming unions representing the four UK regions will come together to pick a winner in January, after the application deadline in mid-November.
The ‘Newbie Award’ is an annual prize being presented to the most successful and innovative new entrants and successors in partner countries across Europe. The aim is to identify and showcase them to inspire other new farmers entering the industry. The winners will also receive funding towards further training or an international visit (€500) and will travel to a Newbie conference to meet other winners from across Europe.
One of the judges, Glyn Roberts of the Farmers’ Union of Wales (FUW), said:
“As a first-generation farmer myself, I am aware of the difficulties and challenges that face new entrance into the industry. It is an honour to be one of the judges of this prestigious award.”
More information and the award application form for UK entrants is available here – and all new entrants and others who are interested in supporting innovation and entry to farming are encouraged to register to the Newbie network and follow us on Twitter.
