This week the NEWBIE team for the UK held their penultimate Steering Group meeting (online). We began with a fascinating update from each steering group member on their recent work involving new entrants. Then there was a vibrant conversation about potential policy recommendations in terms of widening out the land matching service, mentoring schemes and issues around carbon credits. We also discussed the upcoming NEWBIE toolkit and survey and some fantastic ideas for discussion groups and (inter)national exchanges. We look forward to planning these in the coming months and hope that our final Steering Group meeting can be held in person! Please keep a look out in the newsletters and social media for updates on all of these projects. Another topic of discussion was the farm incubator which is being set up at one of Hutton’s farms as a climate positive farm. Glensaugh is one of James Hutton Institute’s research farms which aims to test and demonstrate transformative ways of managing land. You can explore the farm via a virtual farm tour here. They are currently recruiting for a rural business manager, details of which are available here.
